What is a Standm match?

A Standm match pairs two tennis fans who follow the same player, share a compatible timezone, and engage with the sport in similar ways.

A Standm match is a pairing between two tennis fans, made on three criteria: a shared favourite player, compatible timezones, and a similar way of engaging with the sport.

Most social apps match people on proximity or mutual follows. Standm matches on fandom. Two fans who both follow Carlos Alcaraz, both watch live rather than catching highlights, and are both awake for the same matches will have more to say to each other than two fans who happen to live in the same city.

Player

Fans name the players they follow when they join. Matches are made within those fanbases rather than across the sport generally.

Timezone

Tennis runs across every timezone and most of the day. A match is only useful if both people are awake for the same matches.

Engagement style

Fans describe how they follow the sport: how closely they watch, and how they talk about it. A fan who wants to analyse a serve pattern and one who wants to react to a moment are both valid, and they are matched separately.

A Standm match results in a persistent chat, not a feed. Standm is available on iOS.
